Options For Those Who Have Missing Teeth

Your entire body can be affected by your teeth. When you have healthy teeth, then you are a healthier person. Your speech, eating choices and your bite can be affected by having a missing tooth, and you increase the chances of your teeth becoming lost or damaged as a result of relying more on the teeth that are remaining. Not only that, but you might end up having pain in your jaw or you may experience headaches. Nobody wants their appearance to deteriorate, as well as their health, and your jaw can actually melt away when you have missing teeth. In fact, within the first year of loosing teeth, many people lose around 25% of their jawbone structure. Dental implants tend to be easier to place when the teeth are first extracted, and this is because things become more complicated as time passes by.Implants act like the teeth you had or still have. They protect your bone structure and they look good too. There are various options out there, and you can discuss what your options are with your dentist.  As previously mentioned, there are many options out there, and some are temporary and some are long-lasting solutions. If you have a missing tooth or missing more than one tooth, then you’re a good candidate for implants, and age isn’t a factor, but the success rate of implant replacement tends to be lower if you smoke and have certain types of diseases such as diabetes. A professional will take an X-ray of your jaw and they will determine whether or not you are a candidate for implants.

With that said, below are a few types of treatment options available for you if you have one or more missing teeth.

  • Fixed Bridge – This option is a set of replacement teeth and they are connected. A fixed bridge is placed on the of the teeth that is adjacent to where the missing teeth are, and it is cemented into place. Before the bridge is attached, the outer layer of the teeth are usually grounded down.
  • Flipper – This is a very affordable option. It is also a temporary solution. A flipper is a plastic tooth and it features a retainer.
  • A Metal Partia – This option features a partial denture that can be removed, and it’s cast in both plastic and metal. wire clips hold the metal partial in place. When the patient is required to, they can remove it and reinsert it.
  • Dentures- Dentures are one of the most common options people choose. When a person is missing all their bottom and/or top teeth, they can get dentures. Some people don’t like dentures because they don’t find them comfortable to wear.
  • Dental Implants- Implants are a permanent solution and they can keep your jaw strong and healthy. Not only that, but they are better than bridges because they don’t cause any damage to healthy teeth. Another benefit of implants is they last for a longtime, as they are a permanent solution, which is not the case with bridges. Implants are stable and they look good, which is why they are a great option for many patients.

Implants are ideal because they don’t damage the surrounding teeth. Also, you don’t have to remove the, which is what you have to do with dentures. Plus, dentures can be embarrassing to wear for some people, and this is another reason why you should get dental implants.
